About the
Art of American Kenpo Karate
Kenpo Karate is rich in history, yet practical
in today's environment. The art has its origins in
China, then made its
way through Okinawa, Japan, Hawaii and finally to the United States in the
early 1950s. Ed Parker, generally known as the "Father of American
Karate", moved from his birthplace of Hawaii and opened the first
commercial martial arts school in the U.S. in 1954, teaching the art of Kenpo Karate. Making great innovations in the art, Mr. Parker developed
the art into what is known today as "American Kenpo."
American Kenpo Karate is known for its
practical and effective applications for Self-Defense. Whether it be a
child in a schoolyard situation or an adult in a full on assault, Kenpo
teaches techniques that will work as well as the responsibilities that
accompany such knowledge and skill.
